There are hungry kids in New Albany. Hard to believe, but in the New Albany Plain Local School District, nearly 100 children in need receive two free meals a day through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). The food they receive ensures they have at least two meals on school days — but what about the weekends?
Since 2022, our neighbors at Rose Run Presbyterian have been providing supplemental weekend meals for the hungriest children at New Albany Intermediate School. Their efforts, through donations and volunteer time, have ensured that children in dire need receive three meals and two snacks a day, from Friday night until Sunday night to tide them over until Monday morning’s school breakfast.
In partnership, Rose Run has approached TBS and asked that we join in on this important act of Tikkun Olam. We aim to provide the same tzedakah for the children in the New Albany Primary School and Early Learning Center.
Of the students in both schools, in Pre-K through 3rd Grade, it is estimated that 25 are hungry and need our help. Students in the most dire need have been identified and the list is growing. Our team is currently sending food home with 10 students — and we need help!
It costs $20 to feed one child from Friday night dinner through Sunday night dinner.
Please consider sponsoring a child in our community:
On a monthly basis ($80), for half a month ($40), or just one weekend ($20).
Donations can be made on a one-time or monthly basis.
