One day Honi was journeying on the road and he saw a man planting a carob tree. He asked, "How long does it take for this tree to bear fruit?" The man replied: "Seventy years." Honi then further asked him: "Are you certain that you will live another seventy years?" The man replied: "I found already grown carob trees in the world; as my ancestors planted those for me, so I too plant these for my children." - Talmud Taanit 23a
You may have heard this story before. Being an active temple member is different for everyone. For some, it's attending services, for others its life cycle events, and yet for many others it is a feeling of community and belonging, both in times of joy and times of sorrow. Regardless of our reason for connection, we all feel a connection. With that connection comes a responsibility to plant the seeds for not only today, but to ensure a rich forest is left for our future generations.
This year, we need your support more than ever. The reality we face as a community is it takes more than what we have done in the past to support our temple, the quality of our pulpit and educators, and plan for future initiatives.
As we embark upon a new year, I reflect back to how far we have come as a community. From our humble beginnings, to our move to New Albany, to paying off our mortgage, we have added block after block to build our legacy as a beacon of reform Judaism in central Ohio. Now is the time to take the next step. And we need your help. We are blessed to have such amazing clergy members, educators, and activities. To support TBS now, we ask for your support for our 5785 Annual Appeal.
Thank you for your generous support.
